I do everything with intention because I am passionate about my assignment.

I cannot stand cookie cutter…I value MY story.

And I do not ask permission.

I control my own narrative.

🔑 MAJOR KEYS 🔑

Creating shareable content is really big right now.

“Shareable” meaning, creating something that your folks will want to send to the group chat, or something they can save to come back to at the specific point in time that they need it.

Platforms like IG actually mandate it if you want more eyes on your stuff.

But being “shareable” is key to being remembered.

For instance, if your client work takes place offline, then you want your name to be heard (and remembered!) while you network and/or ask for referrals.

You’ve gotta be remembered to get the testimonial, right?

And to stay top of mind, that ‘sticky factor’ is so key.

So yes, that means you gotta be Dope + Different®! But if you wanna throw some firepower on your projects and downright ensure somebody’s gonna say your name…you gotta try using nostalgia.

I used to be heavy in the lead generation space, and my favorite tool for online list building was a quiz funnel (for a lot of different reasons that we can get into in another email). In fact, I made a whole course about it!

One of the things that I teach is the exact type of questions you should include in your quiz to boost conversions of your money offer and — no surprise here — make your quiz more shareable.

The more shareable the quiz is, the more leads you get. Simple.

One of those specific questions that my framework calls for you to include? A question based in nostalgia 🤯

What 80s superstars had a spot on your wall

Which Will Smith character lives in your head?

What 90s sitcom would you love to bring back?

Screenshot from my popular Brand Prototype Quiz, circa the year 2020.

These questions seem random and unimportant, but they up the nostalgia quotient in your brand and give your reader something fun to think about it.

And if you use my Quiz Booster strategy to pair the result to your product?? You’ve got a winner!

PLUS 10 times outta 10, that question will get shared to your reader’s friends over and over (and over) again.

It never fails!

So who’s using nostalgia in their brand right now??

Let’s take a look at everybody’s favorite Memphis girlie, BIG GLO!

📓 THE GLORILLA PLAYBOOK 📓

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice that Glorilla has been riding the nostalgia wave big time, especially with her debut full album, Glorious. Let’s breakdown how she’s used it to make content (aka her music) the top of everyone’s mind this week.

The first half of her album is so nostalgia heavy.

“Procedure” starts out with a clip from Vivica Fox’s character from the cult classic movie Set It Off (1996).

“Whatchu Know About Me” samples Lil Boosie’s “Wipe Me Down” from 2007, and he appears in the video.

“Don’t Deserve” tells a story about a friend’s toxic relationship with an abusive man, much like Eve’s “Love Is Blind” from 1999. Muni Long is also featured on the song, which is PERFECTION, seeing as how she’s single-handedly been bringing back 90s R&B and carrying it on her back all year.

“Rain Down On Me” (sampled from SWV’s 1997 single of the same name) is Kirk Franklin at his best late 90s vibe, when he was bringing us all closer on our walk with God by meeting us where we were. He chose to join Glorilla here to do the same. Hood girls need God too!

T-Pain, who had a staggering run of hits in the 2000s that he still eats off of, rounded out the end of Glo’s album with “I Luv Her”, taking us back to a time when we were all outside 🤣

Let’s be clear, Glorilla was born in 1999. This young lady is 25 years old, she has no business steeping her debut in this much nostalgia.

But that Glo, she’s a smart one!

She’s banking on nostalgia to be the cherry on top, making millennials and Gen X’ers feel like we’re back in school.

No wonder the Aunties been cutting up to Glorilla all week…me included 🙋🏾‍♀️

Whenever I’ve heard anyone speak on her album this week and how its a no skips straight banger…they always mention one of the songs above. Always

I don’t know if the direction of this album was due to artistic license or influenced by her childhood, but whatever it was, it was the perfect storm.

Nostalgia always sells. Point blank period.

🗣 GLO’S TAKEAWAYS 🗣

What can you learn from today’s playbook?

Add some nostalgia.
If you’re looking for your brand to be more memorable, try adding nostalgia to whatever you have in place right now. It’s a simple and easy way to ensure you’re talked about (in a good way!) and shared throughout your audience.

If you look at the logo for StraightUp Original™ and it reminds you of a the typeface (font) from a Coke bottle? There’s a reason for that.

Read through this newsletter and catch some 90s vibes? There’s a reason for that. And there’s more to come too!

Add callbacks and references to your content. Include an image from an old show in your carousel, or use an old meme from The Office.

A lot of times the results we want don’t require more strategy.

Sometimes they just require your audience to feel more fun.

Sometimes they wanna relate so they can give you their Know, Like and Trust.

Add some nostalgia to your everyday content or your next project, and then hit me back and lemme know how it works! You’ll notice a change for sure 😉

If you’re gonna be coming up with dope ass ideas and strategies, you’re gonna need some dope ass music to inspire you! Here’s a tune that I’ve got on replay this week.

Sticking with Glo for this one because I love the album that much. This one is one of my favorites because I’ve already had to pull it out when I was having one of them days.

Stop playing wit that girl!
